About this meet

This meet is now open for booking on WebCollet - see link below:

We have exclusive use of this unique hostel located in the beautiful Doethie valley in the heart of the remote Cambrian Mountains in Wales. There are a range of walks from the door or within a short drive, from the gentle to the challenging. The Cambrian Way passes nearby and there are many mountain tracks to explore on foot or by mountain bike. The hostel is well suited to bird-watching with red kites frequently seen in the skies above the hostel.

Local Information

Amongst all the hostels in Wales, Ty'n Cornel stands out for the isolation and beauty of its location. It is the most remote hostel in Wales, but the accommodation that it provides is comfortable and welcoming.

The hostel has plenty of character. This 19th century former farmhouse has thick stone walls, quarry tile floors, and ceilings with exposed beams. The common room offers traditional wooden bench seats (including a Victorian settle) as well as softer seating. Recent additions such as an efficient wood-burning stove, built-in wooden bunks, and mains electricity provide comfort and convenience whilst preserving the character of the hostel. There is a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, a fridge, an electric shower, and separate male/female washrooms and toilets. Eco-friendly features include photovoltaic solar panels, which replace about 50% of the electricity consumed.

The nearest shops are approx. 10 miles from the hostel in Tregaron. There is a good Spar shop which also contains a post office. There is also a range of other small shops. Meals are available at The New Inn - Llanddewi Brefi. There are several places to eat in Tregaron including the highly regarded Y Talbot hotel.

But it is the location that makes Ty'n Cornel unique. It lies in splendid isolation 7 miles from Llanddewi Brefi village, in the beautiful Doethie valley.

Facilities

Accommodation: Capacity 16 in two 8-bunk dormitories, normally separate male and female. The volunteer warden has a separate small dormitory. Bedding is provided: freshly-laundered bed linen is provided for use with the duvets and pillows. Towels available for hire. Electric shower, separate male and female washrooms and toilets.

Common room: wood-burning stove, two tables with bench seats, armchairs, rocking chairs, books, magazines, games.

Self-catering kitchen: all-electric cooking. Two twin-ring hobs, small (worktop) oven/grill with two rings above, microwave oven, toaster, electric kettle. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans, and utensils. There is a small store of non-perishable food for sale, all other food must be brought with you. The UV filtered spring water is suitable for drinking.
