The George Starkey hut at Patterdale has got to be one of the best located huts in the Lakes with Hellvellyn and the High Street range virtually on the doorstep. The hut is well-equipped and arriving on Friday night with a forecast of 70 mph winds, heavy rain and thick mist for the whole weekend

Staying at the Smiddy bunkhouse near Fort William the Gentian group were well placed for a number of routes but the weather was poor until the last day.  Mick G reports that on the first day the group followed a good track up from Loch Arkaig through the mist with a bit of compass work
