Gentians on Skye May 2017 – Bruach na Frithe

Day 5 on The Isle of Skye was wet and rainy and after my exploits on The Inaccessible Pinnacle the day before I was glad to rest up and do very little.

On Day 6 Helen, Jane, Cheryl and I climbed Bruach na Frithe. We parked in a layby about 500m west of The Sligachan Hotel and headed up the track towards Alltdearg House. It was cloudy and damp but with better weather forecast we pressed on up to the lochans at Bealach a’ Mhaim. Here we turned south east and headed up the west ridge of Bruach na Frithe. The path is rocky and a bit scrambly in places but pretty straight forward and before long we were on the summit.

The weather was beginning to improve and went from mist and grey to sunny spells followed by short but heavy showers. As a result we got a fantastic view of a rainbow in Fionn Choire before descending through it back to the car.

Tea and scottish scones were taken at The Sligachan Hotel to celebrate a truly remarkable week of walking variety and five more Munros successfully put into my bag.

If you think this looks like fun – come and join us.
