Little Langdale – March 2026

Staying at the Fylde Hut in Little Langdale in the South Eastern Lakes we awoke in splendid isolation on Saturday to a frosty but sunny morning. A lovely and rewarding walk from the hut over Lingmoor Fell to Great Langdale with dramatic views meeting universally friendly fell runners and walkers. With few tourists we had lucked out and enjoyed the fells with some genuine sense of isolation going from mountain, to forest to valley.

On Sunday we drove over to Loughrigg Tarn NW of Ambleside and had a short walk being ever mindful of the 6 hour drive ahead. Again we enjoyed emblems of the lakes including stone farmstead, sprays of daffodils and Herdwick sheep. The very steep pull up the Western side of Loughrigg Fell again rewarded us with views before dropping back north skirting tourists and busy roads to edge along Hope Arboretum and return ready for the drive home. A very lovely weekend.
