Non-members welcome!
If you think you might be interested in joining our club, why not come along for a free taster on this Sunday day-walk in the Peak District – an ideal chance to meet a few current members, find out more about the club, and enjoy a day in the hills!
We’ll be following in the footsteps of the historic Kinder Trespass by walking from Hayfield up onto the high moorland plateau of Kinder Scout. Our route will pass alongside Kinder Reservoir then head up to Sandy Heys and along the gritstone edge to the waterfall at Kinder Downfall (water not guaranteed unless we get some rain in the next few weeks!). From there, we’ll head south to the trig point at Kinder Low, from where we have a choice of descent routes depending on the weather and energy levels – the short way via Kinderlow End and Coldwell Clough or the longer, hillier way across the flanks of Brown Knoll and over the small but shapely peaks of South Head and Mount Famine. Total distance will be 12-15km, with around 500m of ascent.
Please bring the food and drink you need for the walk. Afterwards there’s the option of stopping for refreshments at the Sportsman Inn, or one of the pubs or cafes in the village centre.
Please note: this is an opportunity to walk with other prospective and current club members as a group of equals, not a guided walk. Hillwalking is an activity with a level of risk and you are responsible for your own safety. Wear appropriate shoes/boots and carry the equipment that you normally would for a walk in rough upland terrain in the British summer. If you’re planning to join us, please let us know by emailing info@gentianclub.org.uk, including your name and a contact telephone number for the day.
If you have any questions, email us on info@gentianclub.org.uk and we’ll do our best to help!
