Our annual spring meet in Scotland will this year head to the imposing peaks of Glen Coe in the Western Highlands. Our comfortable base for the week will be the comfortable Heart of Glencoe Bunkhouse, superbly located between Glencoe village and the famous Clachaig Inn.
With literally dozens of dramatic peaks within a half hour drive, you couldn’t ask for a better area for Munro-bagging! Well known summits include:
– Bidean nam Bian, the highest in Argyll, behind the awesome rocky buttresses of the Three Sisters
– Aonach Eagach, offering an exciting Grade 2 scramble between the two Munros
– Buachaille Etive Mor, one of Scotland’s most photographed peaks
Heading east, we’re not far from Kinlochleven for access to the fine ridges of the Mamores, or from the quieter hills of Glen Etive. A few miles up the coast is Fort William, the usual starting point for an ascent of Ben Nevis. Or why not take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe and explore the remote wilderness of Ardgour – much less visited as its highest peaks are not quite high enough to be Munros! Sections of the West Highland Way offer lower level options.
The well-appointed bunkhouse sleeps 16 across three rooms and has three recently-refurbished, luxury bathrooms. And after our mountain days we’ll be able to prepare and enjoy hearty evening meals in the spacious kitchen and dining room.
