Patterdale, at the head of Ullswater in the northeast of the Lake District, will be the destination for our March 2027 meet. We have secured 14 beds at the spacious and popular George Starkey Hut, right in the heart of the valley and surrounded by an abundance of Wainwright fells, pretty valleys and high mountain tarns.
Walks available from the door include:
– Helvellyn by the celebrated Striding and Swirral Edges
– Deepdale Horseshoe over St Sunday Crag and Fairfield
– Place Fell with grand views along Ullswater
– High Street, with its historic Roman road and views over Haweswater
and many more!
The hut, co-owned by the ABMSAC and Alpine Club, has a large and well-equipped kitchen and generous dining and lounge areas, with a solid fuel stove to keep it cosy. Upstairs are three dormitories. And the free parking behind the hut is a rarity in this popular area!
