Welsh Winter – Snowdonia

To kick off 2027, we’ll be heading to the spectacular mountains of northern Eryri (a.k.a Snowdonia!) for a taste of the Welsh Winter! Our accommodation for the weekend will be at the comfortable Glan Dwr Mountain Lodge beside the Afon Llygwy river in Capel Curig.

Within just a few minutes’ drive we have some of Wales’ most impressive peaks. Popular walks include the Glyders via the Devil’s Kitchen, airy scrambles on Tryfan, or a choice of routes up Wales’ highest peak, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), and in mid-January we should have a good chance of avoiding the usual crowds too! Or walking right from the bunkhouse door, you could head onto the quiet eastern end of the Glyders ridge, the rough crags of Creigiau Gleision above Llyn Cowlyd, or the ever-popular Moel Siabod.

The bunkhouse boasts a well-equipped kitchen, spacious dining and lounge areas, and 20 beds spread across four comfortable en-suite rooms. There’s central heating and a wood-burning fire to keep us cosy after the worst the Welsh elements can throw at us, and a drying room to ready our kit for the next day if necessary!
