Yorkshire Dales Dec 2017

Crampons and cakes: members enjoyed a three night meet at the very comfortable Holly Lodge at Ingleton (underfloor heating, dishwasher, en-suites and wifi are unfortunately not guaranteed on future meets). Rather strangely, there was less snow in the area than in the Midlands but enough to need at least kahtoolas for Phil’s Saturday route up to the busy summit of Ingleborough (723m). By a happy coincidence the route back passed the village bakery necessitating a stop to add mince pies and cake to the existing stock of stollen before a delayed evening meal. On Sunday, Phil led again direct from the hut onto a windy Gragareth (627m) with views of the Lakes returning in ample time to enjoy further cakes and a glass of mulled cider. With more snow and treacherous road conditions predicted most members then left on the Monday morning.

A superb weekend in upmarket accommodation with good walks in ample but not too much snow, great food and, of course, excellent company.
