SW Lakes Mar 2019

Braving high winds and rain [please vary intro to these trip reports– Ed] several Gentian parties set out on the Saturday from the MAM hut in Coniston. Tarn Hows proved a popular destination with one group continuing on to the Cat Cafe at Hawkshead [?!? – explanation needed – Ed] for tea and buns while another group were forced on their return to seek shelter in a Coniston hotel where, quite coincidentally, the Wales v Ireland rugby match played on TV and real ales were served.

Sunday brought (slightly) better weather and various groups headed out toward Goat’s Hawse, Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam with icy patches at high levels requiring deployment of Kahtoola microspikes.

Another poor weather but good company weekend.
